Missing Man’s Body Found
Investigators in Hancock County found the body of a missing man, just hours after a family-wide search ensues. Thirty-three year-old Jason Johnson was discovered in the woods just behind his home nearly two weeks after he was last seen.
By horse, by four wheeler and on foot, on Monday morning, family and friends of Jason Johnson searched and hoped to find their loved one safe and sound. Jason’s brother Mike Johnson said, “No one’s heard from him. No one’s seen him. He has nothing but the clothes on his back and that’s it. That’s all we know.”
Dwayne Johnson, Jason’s brother, said, “For him to be gone a week and a half and not call his mom or come back and get his clothes, it just seems odd.”
By mid-morning, the search came to a halt when family members discovered one of Johnson’s shirts. That’s when the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department took over the search, led by a K-9 deputy, around 60 yards from Johnson’s home. Investigators discovered the worst around 3 p.m. Chief Investigator Glenn Grannon said, “He was found connected to a tree by a tight arm strap. The strap had been placed around his neck and it appears through all the evidence that he had committed suicide.”
Grannon says Johnson’s body was in the woods for at least three days. He had been missing for 11. Family friend Ashley Ladner said, “We came into this hoping for a good outcome. It wasn’t an outcome that we wanted, but at this time the family does have closure.”
Grannon tells News 25 even though all signs point to suicide, the sheriff’s department will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death.
