Missing boater found dead after search in George County

A missing boater was found dead in George County over the weekend after a search that involved multiple agencies.

The George County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7 a.m. Saturday morning about an unattended vehicle and boat at a boat ramp in the Buzzard Roost community.

Deputies found personal items in the vicinity of the boat launch at which point multiple organizations including Jackson County dive teams and wildlife agents began to search for the missing boater.

Later in the day around 12:30, searchers located a 60-year-old man dead in the water.

No foul play is suspected at this time, but if you have information about this incident, you are asked to contact the George County Sheriff’s Office.
