MIRA Members Head to Jackson to Speak about Immigration Legislation
Today members of the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance, or MIRA, were at the state capitol hoping to speak with state lawmakers about pieces of legislation they’re concerned about.
MIRA members believe anti-immigration policies being introduced will make it easier for the government to target immigrants. Some bills MIRA is concerned about here in Mississippi include criminalizing work by undocumented workers, giving local law enforcement officers power to enforce immigration policy, and requiring public schools to document the immigration status of enrolling students.
