Military equipment at Centennial Plaza
Military trucks rolled in to Centennial Plaza this morning in Gulfport in preparation for this weekend’s huge bicentennial event.
Four vehicles from the Seabee Base are parked inside the gate right along Highway 90 in Gulfport ready to show off to the spectators this weekend, but this is just the beginning. There will be additional tanks and military units from the Seabee Base, Keesler, and Coast Guard for the Bicentennial Celebration South.
Officials say the large military presence is essential in Mississippi’s big bash. MDMR Director of Operations Brig. Gen. Joe Spraggins said, “This is one of the things I love so much about South Mississippi, they have always been one who has supported the military 100 percent and they support them more than anybody I’ve ever seen in my life. This will be a showcase again this weekend to show once again on our bicentennial for the state of Mississippi on our 200th anniversary, we’re dedicating a whole day to the military.”
Gates open at 9 a.m. on Friday for the Bicentennial Celebration South.
