Mike Leach named head football coach at Mississippi State
When serving as the Washington State head football coach earlier this season, Mike Leach said Mississippi State was home to the worst visitor’s locker room he’d ever seen. Poetry in motion, Leach is now the next head football coach at Mississippi State.
Today MSU Athletic Director John Cohen announced the hiring less than a week after parting ways with Joe Moorhead.
Leach spent the last eight seasons at Wazzu where he took the Cougars to six bowl games across an overall record of 55-47.
The one they call “The pirate” will bring his air-raid offense to Starkville, having led the FBS in passing 10 times during his 18 years as a head coach.
This is Leach’s first head coaching job in the SEC, having also previously spent 10 years at Texas Tech.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 38-28 loss to Louisville in the Music City Bowl, capping off a disappointing 6-7 season.
