Mike Byrd Free Court Supervision

Former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd is now free from court supervision.

Special circuit Judge Breland Hilburn signed an order terminating the remainder of Byrd’s three years of probation.

Byrd served six months under house arrest and about two years under post-release supervision.

The four-term Sheriff pleaded guilty to a federal charge of obstruction of justice after the June 2012 arrest of a man accused of stealing a patrol car. Byrd admitted kicking the handcuffed man twice in the groin, then ordering deputies to destroy evidence. He also pleaded guilty to a state charge of witness intimidation. Byrd admitted that he asked a deputy to lie to a grand jury after the deputy was struck by a bullet at a narcotics task force office.
