MGCCC Women’s basketball’s Simaru Fields named MACCC Freshman of the Year

In the JUCO ranks, Mississippi Gulf Coast point guard Simaru Fields took home MACCC Freshman of the Year honors following a banner first season up at Perk.

The high-octane spark plug out of Gulfport left her fingerprints all over the conference leaderboards, ranking fifth with more than 15 points per game, third in steals, seventh in three-pointers made, all while averaging more than five rebounds and three assists per game.

Fields guided the Lady Bulldogs to the semifinals of the Region 23 Tournament, ending the year with an overall record of 17-6, the most wins for the program since 2020.

Fields joined on the first-team by her teammate T.K. Catchings and then Elsie Harris on the second-team.

Another three selections over at Pearl River, those being J’Mani Ingram on the first team and then Tymesha Reed and Biloxi alum Marcavia Shavers on the second team.

On the men’s side, second-team selection Darius Dawson is the lone representative for Gulf Coast plus another two for PRCC, those being Harrison Central alum and Tulsa signee Carlous Williams on the first-team as well as Jermahri Hill on the second.
