MGCCC Wins Award for Graduation Rate
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College wins an award for its high graduation rate among student athletes.
Gulf Coast graduated 98 percent of its student-athletes in the 2015-2016 academic year, winning the Halbrook Award for its division.
The purpose of the Halbrook Awards Program is to recognize colleges and universities that maintain and achieve high academic standards for student athletes, thus encouraging high graduation rates.
Gulf Coast also won the award in 2010, 2012, and 2013. MGCCC has more than 200 players in 10 varsity sports. MGCCC Perkinston Campus Vice President Dr. Ladd Taylor said, “We want them to do well on the field and on the court, but ultimately what they need is that degree. This will help them. We have a definite goal of making sure that our athletes graduate and this is just a testament to that effort.
MGCCC staff members say they will continue to go above and beyond every day and embody what it means to be “in the blue.”
