MGCCC students train at Mississippi Power Workforce Development and Training Facility

If you’ve noticed a building under construction on Lorraine Road and you’re wondering what it is, Mississippi Power is opening a training and development facility.

The power company is partnering with colleges to train students to be ready to enter the workforce when they are finished with school.

Students can attend a 13-week long training course to become linemen.

Today, Mississippi Power welcomed students from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to its workforce training center at Plant Watson.

Mississippi Power’s Jeff Shepard says the program is a gateway to hiring top talent. “This is our workforce training facility. So, one of the things we pride ourselves on here at Mississippi Power is identifying and training the next generation of our employees. Whether that’s line workers across our service territory or operators at our power plant, you know, we feel like home grown talent is the best kind of talent.”

The program offers indoor and outdoor training sites for students to train regardless of weather conditions.
