MGCCC running back named player of the week
In the JUCO ranks, Mississippi Gulf Coast running back Terrion Avery is this week’s recipient of the MACJC player of the week.
The Stone High alum controlled the ground game during Saturday’s 45-24 win over Hinds, taking 24 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the victory, the Bulldogs finish one win shy of returning to the state playoffs, ending the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 7-2 and a league mark of 4-2.
Similar praise up in Starkville for MSU quarterback Nick Fitzgerald whose six SEC player of the week awards are a new school record, surprising the previous mark held by Dak Prescott. The senior accounted for four touchdowns in a top 20 victory over Texas A&M.
Then perhaps the best defensive line duo in the country is responsible for two of the 20 semi-finalists for the Bednarik Award between Jeffrey Simmons and Montez Sweat.
