MGCCC prepares for championship run
For the 16th time in school history, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs are South Mississippi champions.
The #1 ranked Bulldogs took down the 6th ranked Hinds Eagles last Thursday night 31-21, sealing a perfect 9-0 record for the regular season. The Bulldogs are now two wins away from an outright state championship and a berth in December’s national championship game.
Before MGCCC thinks that far ahead, they’ll have to defeat East Mississippi Community College, who has won five out of the last eight national championships. Head Coach Jack Wright said, “When you play a team like East Mississippi that’s won that many national titles and has the reputation that they do, of course, it could elevate your program if you’re able to pull it off. It’ll be a tough time. They’ve been in big games before. They’ve gone on the road before in previous years and won big playoff games. So, we have our work cut out for us.”
The Bulldogs host EMCC at A.L. May Memorial Stadium this Saturday night at 7 p.m.
