MGCCC Harrison County Campus celebrates Black History Month
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Harrison County campus held its Black History Month celebration this afternoon.
The celebration took place at the Hospitality Resort Management Center on the campus. Attendees celebrated the month by having food and hearing songs and poems related to African American history.
The program also featured a panel of community leaders in the African American community.
Speakers included James Moody, Brandy Huff, and Deandria Sims who expressed accomplishments and issues affecting African American society. MGCCC Student Life Coordinator Aaliyah Caldwell said, “They are just people that are involved in the community and very much so have the same outlook that we have our students. Culture and diversity are very important on our campus. But as a whole Mississippi Gulf Coast also. We very much so strive for the better of our students. All of our students matter. So, it doesn’t matter what color or race you are. You are important and we value you that here at the college.”
