MGCCC football players sign to 4 year universities

13 Gulf Coast college sophomores are taking their football careers to the next level, after signing letters of intent with 4-year universities. They made it official this morning at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s JUCO signing day.

Chris Johnson accomplished what every community college athlete strives for — signing a letter of intent to play at a four year university. Johnson, a sophomore defensive lineman for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, says the past two years rushed by in the blink of an eye.

"It feels great you know the two years I’ve been here, they flew by, but I enjoyed the time I’ve been here," says Johnson, who is signing to Western Kentucky.

With his mother by his side today, Johnson says this step in his career was only made possible, in large part, through the coaches who guided him. "They weren’t just coaches for us on the field, you know, they were there for us off the field. They helped guide us in the right direction, and they just taught us how to be mature and with class."

"We encourage and motivate for these guys to be able to be productive citizens and to move on and be leaders in their communities," says Head Football Coach, Chad Huff.

Some of the universities the more than dozen Gulf Coast players signed with include Central Arkansas, South Alabama, West Florida, and UAB.
