MGCCC Bulldogs prepare for MACJC Championship game

They say to be the best you have to beat the best. Considering East Mississippi Community College had won the last three MACJC Championships and five out of the last eight National Championships, Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Mississippi Gulf Coast can only mean one thing.

Perhaps a changing of the guard as a result of the 31-7 triumph over the Lions, the top ranked Bulldogs are now in line to play for their first state title since 2010.

It’s a well-deserved honor for Gulf Coast who cemented its place as the nation’s number one team by holding EMCC to single digits for the first time all season.

Next up for Gulf Coast is fourth ranked Northwest Mississippi in the title bout.

Tonight, News 25 caught up with second year Head Coach Jack Wright who says even with a trip to the National Championship game on the line, his team’s clutch gene should prevail. “What I think you’re going to get is our kids have proven they’re ready for the big stage. Not that we can’t be beaten, because Northwest has a great team. And in this league, any team can beat you. But we’ve played on the big stage. I don’t think what’s at stake is going to affect our ability to play. There is a lot at stake, but I think our kids are going to play to the best of their ability.”

Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Rangers is slated for 2 p.m. from Senatobia.
