MGCCC: Top 10 National Designation Military Friendly Spouse School
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has done it again. MGCCC has once again earned a top spot nationally when it comes to equipping and providing our military men and women and their spouses with higher and continuing education.
Daniel Baker is a military veteran and history buff. Working as a history instructor at MGCCC is a perfect fit for the current civilian career path he’s chosen. “I’m here because of the Montgomery G.I. Bill. I was able to go to school because of that and to get my Master’s Degree as well.”
Baker knows first-hand that history often repeats itself. No exceptions here. MGCCC has just earned new stripes, edging out more than 12,000 colleges, universities, and trade schools competing for the Military Friendly Designation each year and landing in the top 10 for Military Friendly Spouse School, a prestigious honor by Victory Media. “To be honest, they really do deserve it, even the instructors who aren’t even veterans, they really do their best to make sure we can do what we need to do to make sure our veterans are taken care of.”
MGCCC assists its military students in scheduling courses around temporary duty assignments and interruptions for deployment, offering courses at Keesler Air Force Base and the Seabee Navy Base for not only those who serve our country, but their spouses, too. MGCCC Harrison County Campus Director of Enrollment Services Dawn Buckley said, “We do offer classes for our current military through tuition assistance. They can use that tuition assistance. Their spouses can use the MyCAA scholarships.”
MGCCC offers plenty more educational opportunities for our military men and women, past and present, and their family members, right at the tips of everyone’s fingers. “We have done a great job in the past few years, and especially this year, putting everything on our website for students to be able to access the information so they don’t have to keep wondering where do I go? The military students’ section-there’s a full page for veterans’ benefits, and dependents’ information as well as the MyCAA Scholarship, which is My Career Advancement Account-that’s for scholarships for students who are spouses of military members.”
