Merit Health makes donation to Back Bay Mission

For the second year in a row, Merit Health Biloxi has made a donation to Back Bay Mission.

Previously, Merit Health would give gifts to healthcare workers.

Those providers asked that the money for their gifts be donated to a local organizations impacting the city.

Little did they know that Back Bay Mission would be using the money to health unsheltered and low-income individuals get the medical care they need.

This $2,000 will be used to pay for co-pays, medication, and other emergency medical expenses.

“Quite a few individuals that come in have health needs and have a need for pharmaceuticals,” said James Pennington, the Back Bay Mission executive director. “And so, we pay for their pharmaceuticals. So, this is what we’ll put it toward. This will probably cover pharmaceuticals for about three or four months.”

“The physicians, by nature, are interested in caring for the community and giving back,” said Travis Sisson, the CEO of Merit Health Biloxi. “So, this is just another way that they can contribute to the overall health of our community.”

The physicians were able to choose what organization the donation went to.
