Merit Health Biloxi releases impact on Gulf Coast
Merit Health Biloxi has released a report on the impact it has made on the Gulf Coast this past year.
In 2021, the hospital and clinics delivered care for more than 97,000 patient visits as the pandemic heightened the need for medical care.
Employees and medical staff brought their skills to support more than 25,000 emergency department visits, provided care for more than 4,000 inpatients, and performed more than 5,000 surgeries.
Merit Health also provided over $94 million in charitable contributions and uncompensated care for community residents. Merit Health Biloxi CEO Landon Hise said, “I’m very proud of our team. We’re just getting out of the worst two years in the history of health care and our staff has gone through a lot, so it’s very proud to see a lot of our growth initiatives we have. Lots of work is what it takes by every member of the hospital. Recently, we got our joint commission accreditation, and that takes work by everybody.”
Merit Health Biloxi evolved with increased services and facilities including a new 12 bed behavioral unit, a $2 million renovation project for the operating rooms, and opening an interventional cardiac program.
