Mercy Housing and Human Development offering free income tax assistance

Mercy Housing and Human Development is offering free incoming tax filing assistance.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, also known as VITA, is offered through Mercy Housing and Human Development. Anyone who makes $60,000 or less is eligible, however, VITA provides income tax help for those who make more depending on the circumstance.

The program is completely free. People can use the drop box or schedule an appointment with a VITA expert. VITA Tax Advance Preparer Lauren Misko said, “We help people that aren’t fortunate enough to pay for their tax services because we like to help the community. We like to be involved in the community, and help in any way we can. It’s a very fulfilling job, and it’s a good way to meet people because we also offer other services here. And it helps them to know the other services because they might need them as well.”

Those interested can contact Mercy Housing and Human Development for an appointment at 228-896-1945.
