Mercy Cross alumni lifting up their own
The Mercy Cross graduating class of 1996 came together this weekend for another local child in need.
Two members of that class, Joshua and Angel Myers, are parents to seven-year-old Sophia Myers of Ocean Springs. The first grader was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.
In lieu of a 20-year class reunion, the group put together a benefit raffle with the proceeds going to their friends and classmates who are in Atlanta with Sophia seeking treatment for her cancer. Mercy Cross alumni Susie Tavel said, “It was a small way for us to feel like we could give back to Angel and Josh and help them, but the bigger thing in what we’re about from Mercy Cross is prayer and coming together as a community when there’s thing in our lives that are difficult and we all can’t fathom what Angel and Josh and Sophia are going through and wish we could do more, but to get together and since we haven’t seen each other since our ten year reunion it’s really special.”
The group raffled off $5,000 towards a Disney trip and the Myers family received $20,000 raised by their classmates.
