Memorial Star dedication in Hancock County honoring Charles Gray
A Heritage Star will be dedicated and unveiled on October 14th at 3 in the afternoon honoring Charles Gray.
The ceremony will take place at the Hancock County Historical Society Headquarters at the Kate Lobrano House.
A screening of the documentary film ‘Connections Matter,’ narrated by Charles Gray, will follow the ceremony.
For background information on Charles Gray, he joined the Hancock County Historical Society in 1984 and was immediately appointed as an officer.
Gray petitioned the state of Mississippi to name the sea battle, taking place in the Bay during the War of 1812 as the ‘Battle of Bay St. Louis.’
The designation transformed the historical society and Gray was appointed executive director for life.
He was able to acquire the Kate Lobrano House for the society’s headquarters, also organizing and hosting many annual events in the city.
