Memorial Hospital offerings for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Memorial Hospital is raising awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to identify underlying signs for women and men that suffer from the disease.

The CDC recommends patients receive a mammogram by age 40 or earlier if your family has a history of the disease to spot early signs of the cancer.

Memorial Hospital is currently offering a special discounted price through 2024 to lessen the expenses of the screening.

The hospital has also added a virtual research nurse program offering clinical treatment options to rural and underserved communities.

Nearly 240,000 women and 2,100 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the U.S. Oncologist Dr. Sidra Khalid warns of the early signs of the cancer and the importance of stopping it before it spreads. “Well, the earlier it is detected and the cancer has not spread, then we can treat it successfully. And then the other thing about some of the signs to look out for breast cancer is: if you have a lump in the breast or underneath the arm or if there’s any skin changes that are present any nipple discharge or nipple changes, or if there’s any pain in the breast also would be the signs to talk to your physician about.”

Through October of next year, Memorial Hospital is offering a discounted fee of $125 on 3D mammograms at four diagnostic centers in Diamondhead, Orange Grove, Cedar Lake, and its main campus on 13th Street in Gulfport.
