Memorial Hospital launches Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink Out Event
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Memorial Hospital kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month Friday with a pink out event designed to educate the community and show support for those impacted by the disease.
Throughout the day, Memorial staff stopped by to take photos in their pink clothing and spread awareness about breast cancer.
The event serves as a reminder for women to prioritize their breast health and stay current on recommended mammograms.
When breast cancer is found early, treatment can be more effective and patients may have more options.
Memorial Hospital Foundation President Aimee Robertson, who is also a breast cancer survivor, shared how her experience has shaped her advocacy. “In April of 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a mammogram quite literally saved my life. There was no lump. Women are taught to feel for a lump, expect a lump, then follow up on that. There are sometimes that a lump is not present. Mine was already progressed so much that it was in my lymph nodes. So, I always urge my friends and family to go get mammograms because I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for one for me.”
The Memorial Hospital Foundation says they’re offering financial assistance for mammograms to help make screenings more accessible.
