Memorial Hospital in Gulfport celebrates first nursing residency cohort graduates

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Memorial Hospital in Gulfport is celebrating a milestone after graduating thirty nurses from its very first nursing residency in Gulfport.

The program is designed to help newly licensed registered nurses make the transition from the classroom to patient care.

Each nurse is paired with a mentor while building clinical skills and confidence on the job.

Hospital leaders say the residency not only prepares nurses for the challenges of bedside care, but also helps create a stronger and more supportive work environment for staff and patients.

Memorial says interest in the program is already growing, with the next residency cohort selected from more than 100 applicants.
