Memorial Health System celebrates completing 400 robotic bronchoscopy cases

Memorial Health System celebrates 400 completed cases of robotic bronchoscopy.

Memorial is the first in Mississippi to offer this new robotic bronchoscope to diagnose lung cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage.

Doctors can see deep into the far reaches of the lungs to detect small nodules that are difficult to reach and at the same time obtain a biopsy using a controller.

According to Memorial, more than 90 percent of people who are diagnosed with lung cancer do not survive due to finding it too late and at an advanced stage.

But the with the new technology, Memorial’s pulmonary team has been able to help three quarters of their patients. Pulmonologist Summer Allen said, “The two of us together are changing the lives and we have a great partnership and team and we’re both aggressive and passionate about this and having done 400 cases, it feels wonderful..”

Pulmonologist Bobby Tullos said, “I remember when we celebrated our 200th case and even less we made it double in that in a very short period of time, you know what we’re doing in terms of effecting our community is huge.”
