Memorial Day Service in Gulfport
The somber Memorial Day ceremonies began bright and early this morning at Jones Park in Gulfport.
VFW Post 2539 and the City of Gulfport hosted the service underneath the Barksdale Pavilion. Gold Star Family members were honored as they stood up for their loved ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Over 100 Mississippi fallen service men and women were honored as well, as their faces were displayed in front of the crowd through Faces of the Fallen. VFW Mississippi State Commander Charles Purchner said, “Well without their sacrifice we wouldn’t have the freedom that we have today. It is as simple as that. They helped to protect and guard our freedoms of our country.”
This was the fourth year the Memorial Day ceremony was held underneath the pavilion in Jones Park.
