Memorial Day Activities

So what are Americans across the nation doing to mark this Memorial Day?
Travel and booking website, TripAdvisor, asked more than 2,200 people about their Memorial Day plans. Here are the top three activities based on the survey: half said they’ll be attending a cookout or barbecue, 22 percent said they’ll be swimming or taking part in a water sport and 18 percent said they would be shopping, taking advantage of Memorial Day sales to kick off the summer.
Gulfport resident Day Watson said, “I basically just chilled with my family. Now I’m fixing to go to the mall and go shopping with my auntie and my nephew and my nieces.”
Biloxi resident Kanox Gladney said, “We gonna be at the pool and playing games at the house and spending time with our friends.”
Jackson resident Dyhiamon Hawkins said, “We haven’t been doing nothing, just going out there in the water, playing in the sand. It’s very hot.”
Many residents and tourists along the Coast tell News 25 one of the best parts of Memorial Day is getting a short break from usual responsibilities.
