Memorial brings awareness to cutting edge procedure

While the month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is also Breast Reconstruction Awareness Month.

Memorial Hospital is bringing more awareness to the tummy-tuck flap breast reconstruction procedure the team offers.

During this procedure, surgeons take soft tissue and skin from the abdomen and transfer that up to reconstruct the breast.

The use of native natural tissue in this procedure limits the risk of tissue loss or wear out and gives a better cosmetic result compared to other procedures.

The team at Memorial is the only group that offers this procedure in the state of Mississippi. Memorial Hospital General Surgeon and Breast Surgeon Dr. Paul Mace said, “We’ve had a really good track record. We’ve had a lot of success with it. We’re just trying to get the word out to patients that that is an option here in our area to have that done. You don’t have to go to a bigger city or travel to get it done. We can do all that here.”

Dr. Mace and the team at Memorial also recommends patients continue to get their yearly breast exams as well as mammograms.
