MEMA updates damage numbers in Moss Point

MEMA has updated damage numbers in Jackson County as a result of the EF-2 tornado that ripped through Moss Point on Monday afternoon.
MEMA says that local officials are reporting that 300 homes and 80 businesses were damaged in the storm. The emergency management agency will work to validate those numbers.
The National Weather Service confirmed the strength of the tornado, which packed winds of up to 130 mph on Tuesday.
Also, Moss Point Police opened Main Street to north- and southbound traffic on Wednesday morning. However, side streets off Main Street from Elder Street to Bellview Street will stay closed. Officers will be posted in the middle lane to slow traffic and prevent site seeing/stopping.
A temporary shelter has been established at the Riverfront Community Center on Denny Street. Mental health resources, food and water are available at the shelter for those in need.
In Jasper County, where a tornado touched down in Louin on Sunday, the National Weather Service confirmed it was an EF3 tornado with winds of 150 mph.
