MEMA Accidentally Sends Out Alert

If you subscribe to the Mississippi Emergency Management Mobile Alert System, you woke up to a startling message this morning.

Shortly after 8:30, MEMA mistakenly sent an “Active Shooter” message.
About six minutes later, a “disregard” follow up message was sent.
MEMA is currently installing a new mass notification system called at-hoc.
Personnel with MEMA are training with the new system and that alert was sent out accidentally.
MEMA Director Lee Smithson issue an apology ensuring it will not happen again.
