Meggan Monday: Nursing Honor Guard honoring those in the profession
When we’re sick or injured, nurses are on the front lines to make sure we get well.
Today, we’re going to take you to a group whose sole mission is to pay tribute to those nurses and the nursing profession when their life’s mission is complete.
“It takes time out for us to say thank you for all your dedication, all your commitment, families without meals and so forth, and just all that commitment. And now it’s time to let you be released of your duties and go on peacefully,” said Sandra Boswell, Vice President & 30-year nurse.
I’ve done several over the last five years here and the benefit is this. We are able to pay respects to nurses who have left before we have, that is our biggest goal to provide that service for free, Sandra Culpepper, President & 17-year nurse.
“It was a combination of Sandra reaching out to me as well and putting it out on social media, because that’s the biggest draw for this, is engaging people through social media. And so that’s how we started off, just by conversation with Sandra and I, as well as Connie Williams out of Jackson, who oversees all of them,” said Culpepper.
“It is in state of Mississippi, all over all counties but the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the three counties have not had a chapter here, so we organized. We have 16 members right now that’s active, and they’re coming from Jackson and Harrison and Hancock County,” said Boswell.
“I’ve been a nurse and ICU nurse for 30 some years, and it’s a calling. It’s not what they’re going to pay you or anything. It’s a calling. You feel it in your heart. You want to take care of patients,” said Boswell.
“It’s been a blessing, and just to impact one life is worth every bit of what we go through,” said Culpepper.
