Mega Millions jackpot claimed in Georgia

The Mega Millions jackpot was claimed this weekend by a lucky winner in Georgia, marking a record-breaking payout and fueling an anticipation for the next drawing.

The winning ticket was sold at a Publix in Newnan, Georgia. The store will receive a $50,000 bonus from the Georgia Lottery and the jackpot winner can choose between $980 million in annual payments over 30 years or a lump sum cash payout of $452.2 million before taxes.

Under Georgia law, winners of $250,000 or more can remain anonymous, meaning the identity of the winner may never be revealed.
