MDOT Fourth of July travel

Ahead of the holiday weekend, MDOT is once again urging drivers to stay off the roads when intoxicated.

In an ‘Independence from Drunk Driving’ campaign, MDOT is reminding folks the Fourth of July has an infamous reputation of being one of the most traveled and most dangerous times of the year.

So, with an additional increase in travelers this year, combined with more celebrating, the risk of drunk drivers escalates.

MDOT encourages people to do a few things like plan ahead and designate a sober driver before drinking.

If you are impaired, call a taxi, sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.

Call law enforcement if you encounter a drunk driver and if you see someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to arrive home safely.
