MDMR hosting Boat and Water Safety classes
Are you wanting to drive your boat on the beautiful Mississippi Coast?
To legally operate a vessel, any person born after June 30th, 1980 is required to pass a boating education course that is approved by Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks.
The Mississippi DMR is hosting boat and water safety classes free to the public about twelve different times a year.
All classes are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. unless stated otherwise. Marine Patrol Officer Captain Michael Strickland said, “We’re not teaching people how to drive boats, but we are teaching them the safety aspects of it, the nomenclature, the mechanics, rules of the road, navigation, aids of navigation, what all of those look like, and the safety equipment that’s required to be able to operate your vessel safely on marine water.”
