Lafayette County releases details in officer-involved shooting

A domestic disturbance call turned deadly after Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies shot a man who was threatening them with a gun.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting that happened about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday night.

Deputies received a 911 domestic call and dispatch said that a woman was arguing with a man and kept asking him to give her the gun.

When deputies arrived, they found a woman outside the residence and learned that two children, aged 19 and 16, were barricaded inside their rooms.

Deputies tried to negotiate with the man, asking him to let the children go and to surrender. During negotiations, the man pointed the weapon at deputies, who fired their weapons.

They performed first aid, but the man died. The children were taken from the home.
