MBI investigating officer-involved shooting involving Capitol Police

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating a officer-involved shooting in Jackson involving Capital Police.

MBI said about 4 p.m. Sunday, in the area of Porter Street and University Boulevard, Capitol Police tried to conduct a traffic stop when the driver fled, leading officers on a brief pursuit before getting out of the vehicle on Winter Street.

The subject had a weapon and exchanged gunfire with Capitol officers.

The subject was injured and taken to a local hospital. No officers were seriously injured.

MBI will share their finding with the Attorney General’s Office when their investigation is complete.

This is the fourth officer-involved shooting in 2024 and the second in Jackson.
