MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Simpson County

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Quick Stop gas station on Highway 49 in Simpson County.

MBI received notification at about noon of this critical incident. Deputies were responding to a call for service when the involved subject presented a gun at the deputies.

The involved subject received fatal injuries. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries.

No other information is available at this time.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

This is the 24th officer-involved shooting in the state for 2023.
