MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Rankin County
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on Walker Drive in Florence,
Mississippi around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service regarding a subject threatening family members at a home. Upon arrival, the subject discharged his weapon at the deputies. The deputies discharged their weapons, striking the subject, who was taken to a local hospital and later died.
The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
This is the 11th officer involved shooting in the state this year. There were eight in the state at this time last year.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office
