MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Okalona

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened last night in Okalona.

MBI says the shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. on Highway 32. Chickasaw County deputies were involved in the shooting. No officers were injured, but there was a fatality.

It is the fourth officer-involved shooting this year. There were 36 last year.

Okalona is a one of two county seats in Chickasaw County with a population of almost 2,700 people about an hour north of Columbus.

MBI is currently assessing evidence. After completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
