MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Monticello

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Monticello Police Department that occurred on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Officers with the Monticello Police Department encountered a subject near a gas station who presented a weapon at them while getting into a vehicle. The officer then discharged his weapon striking the subject.

The subject then took themself to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The involved officers did not receive any serious physical injuries.

This information is preliminary and subject to change.

This is the 25th officer-involved shooting in the state in 2024.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
