MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Meridian

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Meridian Police Department that happened about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday near Bonita Lakes Drive.

Meridian Police officers responded to a call of a person barricaded inside a residence when the subject presented a weapon toward the officers.

Police told media outlets it was Meridian Living, an assisted care facility. According to reports, the subject — a male resident — threatened employees with a pistol.

No officer was injured, but the subject received fatal injuries.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

This is the 13th officer-involved shooting in the state this year.
