MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Laurel

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Laurel Police Department that happened this morning on Park Street in Laurel.

MBI was notified about 5 a.m. of the incident.

Officers were approaching a vehicle occupied by three people when it appeared one of them was reaching for an object in the car.

Officers fired their weapons, and one subject received an injury to their arm and was taken to a nearby hospital. Another subject was taken into custody with no further incident and the other fled the scene.

The officers involved did not receive any serious physical injury.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
