MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Hancock County

Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hancock County.

MBI said in a press release that Hancock County deputies responded to a burglary call in the 28000 block of  Highway 603 in the Kiln about 7 a.m. this morning.

Sheriff Ricky Adam said it was a private residence and the call was about a burglary in progress. When deputies arrived, they confronted the suspect who had apparently burglarized the residence. During the confrontation, Adam said the deputies used lethal force.

The residents were not at home.

Hancock County Coroner Jeff Hair identified the suspect as 21-year-old Isaiah Winkley of Georgia.

The officers on scene received minor injuries in the incident, Adam said. Their identities are being withheld during the investigation, led by MBI.

“Our agency will be fully cooperative with the investigation being conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. I would defer any questions to their agency for comment,” Adam said.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing their investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
