Mayor’s Youth Council in Gulfport
If your Gulfport High School student is a young government official in the making, or simply wants to get more involved in community issues, Mayor Billy Hewes has a place for them.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is open to students, grades 9 through 12, and provides an opportunity for the young adults in the city of Gulfport to discuss, address and take action on topics that are important to them. This group also gives students the opportunity to network with other youth councils across the state.
Chris Vignes with the city of Gulfport said, “I felt like the youth are an untapped resource of wealth and knowledge on community issues and so going to the youth and asking them their perspective on things that we’re doing, things that we can improve, I think we’ll learn a lot as a city and a community. Having them come together, brain storm, have a thought table, and get together, I think we can all move together forward and have a lot of fun with it at the same time.”
