Mayor Holloway Checks In to Alcohol Treatment Center
City officials say the decision to enter treatment was reached by Holloway himself with the help of his family. Mayor Holloway, 75, is the longest serving mayor in the history of the city and is currently in his sixth term. Ward 2 Councilman, Felix Gines, has been appointed Acting Mayor and tells News 25 how he will proceed as Mayor Pro Temp and for how long he will fill that position.
Gines says, “Everything is still going to go according to the way it’s already been going. We have a staff in place, all the directors, they’re aware that the Mayor is out, and of course they’re going to continue business as usual on an everyday capacity. Now we’re hoping as soon as possible, maybe 30, 60 days at the most, but we’re praying for him that he has a speedy recovery.”
Mayor Holloway could take sick leave for the remainder of his term if he feels he cannot return to office.
