Mayor Broomfield Prepares for State of the City Address

Thursday evening, the City of Moss Point will be hosting their State of the City Address. The city is building and is headed in the right direction. That’s what Mayor Billy Broomfield wants to get across during his State of the City Address on Thursday evening.

The Mayor believes a $14 million energy and water infrastructure plan unveiled just last week will lay the groundwork for upgrading city services while cutting back on residents’ gas and energy bills. Broomfield says, “We believe that this is going to be a major savings not just to the city, but to the citizens, because they’re going to get an accurate billing for the usage of the water and gas that they have consumed in their water and business.”

The Mayor also wants to inform citizens on where the city is headed. One project is improving the Highway 63 corridor. Broomfield says, “I would just like to see that area flourish, and I know it can and that’s what we’re working toward and that would make me extremely happy.”

Although there are some locations on Highway 63 that are highly built up, there are also areas directly off the highway that could use some development. Broomfield closes, “That is a hidden jewel out there. People stop for gas, they stop for lodging in that area.”

The Mayor believes new retail stores and restaurants can help generate easy revenue from travelers coming off of the interstate and onto Highway 63. The State of the City Address will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Pelican Landing Conference Center.
