Mayor addresses Biloxi train incidents
Today in Biloxi, Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich addressed the several incidents on the tracks in recent months, including last night’s collision which sent one woman to the hospital.
The mayor suggested turning an alleyway north of the tracks into a frontage road. The roadway will run parallel to the tracks and stretch from Oak Street to possibly Porter Avenue.
Mayor Gilich believes this will give drivers an alternative option while the city works to close a handful of railroad crossings.
A federally created study group has recommended to Congress that passenger rail service be returned to the eastern Gulf Coast corridor with two daily roundtrip routes: New Orleans to Orlando and New Orleans to Mobile.
