Mayor A.J. Holloway Submits Resignation, Effective Mar. 10th

The City of Biloxi is in shock over the resignation of Mayor A.J. Holloway, who was Biloxi’s longest serving mayor. It’s been a pretty quiet scene at City Hall. News 25 spoke with members of the Biloxi City Council and they all wish Mayor Holloway the best.

Thursday morning, the Mayor sent his letter of resignation to the city council, stating that due to an accumulation of health issues, he must ask the people of the City of Biloxi to permit him to be with his family. The 75 year old mayor is currently in his sixth term as Biloxi mayor. On January 29th, the Mayor checked himself into an alcohol rehab facility. During that time, he appointed Felix Gines as Acting Mayor. Thursday, Biloxi City Council President, Kenny Glavan, spoke for the council in wishing the Mayor well.

He says, “My first reaction, quite honestly, is it took a tremendous amount of courage for the Mayor to arrive at his decision today. So I have nothing but great thoughts about his accomplishments and he set kinda’ the pace for all of us to make it a little easier for an unprecedented kind of growth in the years to come.”
