May is ALS Awareness Month
It’s a disease that’s been around since the 1800s that has no known treatment or cure. ALS affects the body by attacking nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord.
May is known as ALS Month and local spokesman Wayne Tiblier wants the community to know what it’s like to live with this disease. Tiblier was diagnosed with ALS two years ago and recently lost his ability to use his arm and legs and is now bound to a wheelchair.
Tiblier tells News 25 he wants to challenge everyone to go a day without using your arm, your voice, or your ability to walk. “It’s a sports disease. Brett Favre, Ray Perkins, Barry Lyons, Matt Marguslott, you have been challenged to take the ALS challenge.”
The Biloxi Shuckers will have an event called ‘Shuck out ALS’ in June to shed light on this disease.
