Matt Luke era begins at Ole Miss

According to an article published by the website Saturdaydownsouth.com, the average tenure of a head football coach at Ole Miss is 3.4 years. So by that standard, Hugh Freeze had a good five year run in Oxford, but now it’s Matt Luke’s turn.
Unlike some coaching changes, Luke was promoted from the inside, having previously served as the team’s co-offensive coordinator and o-line coach for those same five years. Overall, the Gulfport native has been associated with the Ole Miss football program for 15 seasons as a player and coach.
That familiarity bodes well for a Rebels team that’s just one week out from fall camp and so does his passion for the players that wanna see him stick around a while. Ole Miss Offensive Lineman Javon Patterson said, “He’s going to be a great head coach, man. He’s very passionate. He’s always going to give his whole. He loses his voice almost every practice for us, so I know he’ll give it all for the team.”
Ole Miss Defensive Tackle Breeland Speaks said, “He is passionate. That’s the best way I can describe Coach Luke, very passionate. He wants his O-line to be the best O-line in the nation, he wants his offense to be the best offense in the nation. He wants the best, he’s passionate, he’s a Rebel.”
Ole Miss Quarterback Shea Patterson said, “One of our goals as a team this year and as a coaching staff is to go out there and give it our all, win as many games as we can so that he’s not a band-aid coach. I think there’s nobody better to lead this team, this program than Coach Luke.”
During his other stop in Oxford, Luke was in charge of the o-line and tight ends from 2002 to 2005. He was also a student assistant in 1999.
