Massachusetts-based mission group volunteers with wildlife rescue in Pass Christian

PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WXXV) – Massachusetts service group Repair and Replenish Retreat Missions is spending time with Woodside Wildlife Rescue in Pass Christian this week.

The group is working to build and repair multiple structures on site, including an owl sanctuary, a small pool for raccoons, and an enclosure for injured birds.

R and R is based in Massachusetts, but this is not the first time they have made their way down to the Mississippi Coast. Co-founder Luke Bennett says that he was inspired to bring a group down after Hurricane Katrina, and since then, Mississippi has become like a home base for them.

Nearly 100 volunteers traveled to the coast to help out at different locations this week, working each and every day to aid organizations, or even animals, who need a helping hand.

Volunteers at Woodside Wildlife Rescue say the goal is to not only repair the physical structures, but to spiritually replenish those they meet in the process.

Multiple groups from the organization are all across the coast this week working with other nonprofits until their last day this Friday, then they will head back home to Massachusetts.
